Messages From the Principal

Welcome
Welcome to the new school year! I hope that you all had a wonderful summer break and managed to stay cool. The first day of school was quite warm with the temperature being close to 40 degrees. Our school has a policy, like “wet weather” during a heat wave. Therefore, we allow the children to eat together in the undercover areas and then return to their classrooms for some fun activities. I was impressed with the resilience of our students and staff in managing to keep cool, hydrated, and safe. Thank you to parents and carers who were proactive in preparing our students for these days. Well done!

Linking of SWP principles to emerging systemic policies and innovative programs
Strategic Planning – Update
This year we are reviewing the current Business Plan against the Key Performance Indicators and commencing the development of our new Business Plan 2026-2030. The consultation process of the school community will commence shortly. The key component here is the Diagnostic Inventory of School Alignment (DISA) survey that will provide an opportunity for all parents/carers, staff and senior students to complete. More information to follow.

Student Leaders
Developing leadership in our students is a priority for our school and part of our Business Plan, highlighted in the element of Student Voice. Our senior students were given the opportunity to nominate for: Councillor, Sports Captain, Environmental Officer, Technician and Library Officer. On Tuesday of Week 2, the Year 5 and 6 cohort heard from over 20 candidates who outlined the reasons why they would make a great leader in 2025. Students then voted for their top 6 based on their preference. It was inspiring to see so many students step forward, demonstrating confidence, responsibility and resilience. A huge congratulations to those selected for 2025! Student Councillors are Alila H, Eudora B, Jaimie N, Danielle B, Leilani H, Dexter W, Henley H, Enzo S, Dwij S, and Kazi M. Faction Captains are Zara T, Ronan C, Aarav B, Elyssa H, Romy G, Benjamin M, Indi M and Liam H. Technicians are Jackson C, William M, Emilie C and Caitlyn T. Environmental Officers are Leela S, Raon K, Shiana C, Armin H, Asher A and Jaden S. Library Monitors are En Xuan T, Tiana T, Saanvi K, Sofia B and Belle L. Your leadership, dedication and enthusiasm will help make our school an even better place. We know you’ll represent your fellow students with pride and responsibility. The speeches and presentations were of a very high standard. The nominees should be very proud of their efforts. Staff and students placed their vote in the spirit of democracy and the successful candidates were announced. Congratulations to those who were successful, and to those who were prepared to “have a go”. We are proud of you all.

Parent Information Afternoon
It was wonderful meeting many of you on Wednesday during the Parent Information session. Thank you to our staff for preparing the sessions. We hope that you found them valuable and informative. If you have any further questions, please contact your classroom teacher, or call the office.

A powerful vision & defined values
Promotional activities in the community
Embedded community engagement processes
High expectations, by the school’s communities, for student & school outcomes
Entry to the school grounds and before/after school procedure
You may have noticed the signage around the school assisting visitors, parents and students with the entry and exit points. These are crucial in providing a safe learning environment for all. Some gates are also opened and closed at certain times, and during school hours. If you wish to visit the school at any other time besides drop-off and pick-up, you will need to come through the school office and sign-in and out. Please observe and follow the signage.
Our staff have meetings and prepare for the school day, before and after school. If they are out on duty at these times this valuable preparation time will be compromised. Our duty of care is engaged as soon as students are on site, even if parents/carers are also on site. We therefore ask that the following is observed:
- Students in Years 1-6 to commence arriving at 8.15am. They will need to go to the lower undercover area until 8.30am (preferably arrive at 8.30am) when they are dismissed to go to their classroom. Year 5 and 6 students can congregate on the grassed area near the flagpoles.
- Please vacate the school grounds as soon as possible after the 2.55pm home time. We understand that after school is a great time for a quick get together with siblings and friends and ask that you vacate no later than 3.15pm. School rules with regards to behaviour are to be followed, no exceptions.
- OSH Club and other outside groups have a lease agreement that allows them to use our facilities before and after school. Additional students/children on the school grounds compromises the lease agreements and their duty of care. The funds we receive from these organisations flows directly to the education of our students.
- Early Childhood – Please follow the same procedures or as further directed by our staff.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Communication
It is imperative that all parents/carers have downloaded the School Stream App. This is our preferred method of communication, and I ask that you regularly check the updates. We are mindful that social media is part of our daily life, and we are bombarded with continuous messages. We aim to be succinct and timely with our messaging. If you are having difficulties downloading the School Stream App, please contact our office staff for assistance. Also, please update any changes to your details that appear on our school records. Thank you.

Safer Internet Day

Together, we can create a safer internet.
The internet is a space for learning, connection and playing – but for many, it can also be a space where harm occurs.
This Safer Internet Day we invite you to pause and reflect: what role can you play in making the internet safer and more positive? Even small actions from each of us can make a big difference.
The Safer Internet Day Hub is your one-stop shop for resources, toolkits and activities. Whether you're an educator, parent, employer, or community leader, you'll find everything you need to promote online safety.
Plus, explore resources for parents, carers, and organisations working with families to support safer online spaces in your community.

Program Kaartdijin
The Department of Education is currently in the process of rolling out a new state-wide integrated student information system to all public schools. Program Kaartdijin will replace the current system that is no longer adequate for purpose. Dianella Heights Primary School will begin the transition to Program Kaartdijin in Term 2. In preparation for this data migration, student update forms were sent home to all families on Monday 17 February. These forms are due back to the school office by Monday 24 February. If you have not already done so, please check, amend and sign the form/s as necessary. We request that parents pay particular attention to the questions concerning ‘Parent details.’ Accurate information regarding parents’ occupation, education level and language background plays a major part in determining the funding received by the school at census. Please note all forms are required to be returned, even if no changes are made.
Voluntary contributions, IT contributions and P&C voluntary contributions
Thank you to the parents who have already paid for their voluntary contributions through Campion. Over $25,000 has already been collected and goes directly towards purchasing books, materials and resources for your child/ren. If you have not already made payment, please do so by bank transfer. School bank account details are:
- BSB 036 059
- Account 322 228

ECE – Early Childhood Education
It’s been wonderful to see so many excited faces greeting us each morning! We’ve had a smooth start to the school year, and we want to extend a big thank you to our parents and caregivers for their ongoing encouragement and support over the past few weeks.
Our youngest learners have been settling into their classroom routines beautifully. Their growing confidence and independence are wonderful to see!
Kindy Highlights
- Exploring new class routines and expectations together while making new friends.
- Exploring the concept of long and short words.
- Counting to 20 and recognizing numbers up to 5.
- Continuing our ‘All About Me’ theme, learning about emotions and families.
Pre-Primary News
- Exploring new class routines and expectations together!
- Making new friends and building strong, supportive relationships.
- Creating a warm, welcoming classroom where everyone belongs.
- Kicking off our first reading adventure with the fun book, Wombat Stew.
- Getting creative with Peggy Lego as we start learning to write our lowercase letters!
Kiss and Drop Zone
This week, we introduced our ‘Kiss and Drop Zone.’ We encourage you to say goodbye quickly in the mornings, allowing children to transition smoothly into their classroom routines. This small step fosters independence and helps set a positive tone for the day. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to make an appointment with your child’s teacher.
We are so proud of the effort and enthusiasm our students have shown so far, and we look forward to an exciting term ahead!

Wellbeing Officer
I am so pleased to continue supporting the social, emotional needs of our Dianella Heights students in 2025. The first few weeks of term can be really challenging for some students and families. Transitions to new classrooms with new teachers and peers can be exciting, but it is often overwhelming! Be sure to remember that it takes time to settle in and that big feelings are very normal.
As Wellbeing Officer, I work as a member of the school’s wellbeing team to contribute to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment which promotes the physical, social and emotional development and wellbeing of all students.
As part of my role, I provide one-to-one intervention to students needing more focused support for a range of social emotional issues. Referrals for these sessions are initiated by the classroom teacher.
My goal is to assist young people to:
- Become more self-confident
- Understand and manage feelings of stress, uncertainty and being overwhelmed
- Identify and foster the meaningful relationships in their lives
- Feel in control of their world
Focus Virtue

The next focus virtue is Respect – we treat ourselves and others with dignity and courtesy.
We are practicing respect when we:
- Speak courteously to everyone
- Take special care of the belongings of others
- Are receptive to the wisdom of elders
- Honour the codes of conduct of your family and school
- Expect respect for your body and your rights
- Treat others with dignity
I look forward to supporting the Dianella Heights Community in 2025. Please reach out if you are unsure of how to access support for you or your children.
