Works
1. New grass shoots are visible, and the oval rejuvenation is on track. These works would not be possible without the partnership we have with our P&C and others. I would like to thank the following for the contribution of funding:
• OSH Club $5000
• Pasta in the Valley $300
• Rise Learning $200
• P&C $2500
• School $8000

2. I am pleased to announce that the Department has agreed to replace the aging carpet in our library. These works will take place shortly. There will be a disruption to library services for about a week.

EALD – English as Additional Language/Dialect
Recently, I had the opportunity to meet with classroom teachers for moderating sessions. We compared the writing completed by students in small, supported EALD groups with their in-class writing. This evidence was instrumental in assessing and reporting on the students' progress using the EALD Progress Maps. These collaborative sessions are a valuable tool at Dianella Heights, aiding in future planning and goal setting for our EALD learners.
The Year 2 students have proudly published their narratives into mini books and taken them home. They were excited to share their work with their classroom teachers and peers. We hope you enjoy reading their innovated stories.

The Year 5 students have been honing their persuasive writing skills, with the topic "AFL is better than Soccer" sparking lively debates. During Mrs. Hesse's sport lessons, they learned the rules of AFL, which has become a new passion for Hannah. However, Seon and Duon remain steadfast in their belief that soccer is far superior. The students crafted strong arguments for both sides and produced well-constructed pieces.

Below I have included some interesting information on the stages of learning English as a Second Language.

ECE News
In Kindy we have been busy building our number knowledge. The children have been working on number recognition, counting objects, and sequencing numbers up to 8. We've had lots of fun with number rhymes to help us remember how to write each digit, and we even turned ourselves into human number lines!
Our literacy learning has taken off too. We have started exploring the sounds that letters make, using catchy songs, creative sound crafts, and sorting games to reinforce our learning in playful ways.
We have also been learning about community helpers - the important people who look after us and keep our communities running smoothly. We have talked about who we can call in an emergency, a valuable life lesson for our little learners.
Thanks to a generous voucher from Bayswater Bunnings, we’ve added child-sized gardening tools to our collection. The children have loved using them to sweep, dig, and pull weeds -showing great initiative and pride in their garden space. And finally, we have something exciting growing in our veggie patch! The children recently planted potatoes, and we’re all keeping a close eye on them. With a bit of sunshine and care, we’re hoping to harvest enough for a delicious batch of hot chips in the future!
Our Pre-Primary students have successfully begun their Speaking and Listening task—and what a performance it has been! Our students presented their very own weather report, confidently sharing their knowledge of weather symbols, appropriate clothing choices for different conditions, and fun activities suited to the weather. Dressed like true professionals in blazers and ties, and speaking into their own microphones, they were absolute superstars! We are so proud of their hard work and enthusiasm—future news presenters in the making!
Room 17 and Room 18, please be aware of your History project. View the timetable on the classroom window for your child’s allocated presentation date. We look forward to hearing all about your special family heirlooms.
As a gentle reminder, if your child is feeling unwell (has a runny nose, cold symptoms, or just isn’t feeling their happy self) please keep them home to help stop the spread of germs. We really appreciate your support in keeping our Kindy community healthy.

Lunchtime Disco and Lego Club
We danced under some menacing rain clouds last week but we still managed to bust a move before the rain came! It was really special to see older students dancing with younger students, amidst a lot of giggling and falling down! Then Monday saw the return of Lego Club in the library - can’t wait for more cosy creative hangouts this Winter.

Your Move
We are pleased to announce that we are a member of the Your Move schools program.
Your Move is a Department of Transport program that encourages students and their families to get active by walking, riding and scootering to school or catching public transport, more often.
Simply by changing how your child travels to school a few times each week can deliver lifelong benefits. Increasing active transport to school has been proven to lower childhood obesity, establish healthy habits and improve concentration and academic performance.
Reducing the number of cars around the school at drop off and pick up times also helps improve safety and reduces pollution.
So, join the Your Move movement and help us to earn points that can translate into funding for new bike and scooter racks.

Thank You from Fair Game
Thanks again to the wonderful students and staff at Dianella Heights for your support Please see the certificate of appreciation to include the funds raised and equipment donations.
