School Board -Update
The community voting process for our Board members is now complete. Thank you for taking the time to vote. I am pleased to inform you that Louisa Leung, Verity Broun and Mustafa Yildiz were elected as your new Board members. At our Board meeting, Verity Broun accepted the School Board Chair role. The new Board voted to amend the constitution to allow up to five parent representatives instead of the current three. This will greatly assist the Board in achieving a quorum at our meetings given that parent and community members are volunteers with often busy work and parental commitments. As a result, I would also like to welcome Melissa RetalIack and Marjin van Doorn as Board members. Melissa and Marjin were the other parent nominees in the community voting process, and with the increase to Board numbers were taken to be elected. Congratulations to Verity and Board members. I look forward to working with you, guided by our vision “soaring to new heights in excellence through unity.”

Social Media
I ask that parents and carers to be vigilant on their children’s use of social media, especially following age restrictions, terms and conditions and what they post. Our school invests resources in the education of keeping safe whilst using IT. Online bullying is easy to manifest, and once it does, is difficult to eradicate. In most cases it has ramifications at school and children’s emotional health and wellbeing. For more information, please visit the eSafety Commissioner website. I have provided the link for your information.

Entry to School Grounds and Before/After School Procedure
Signage around the school assists visitors, parents and students with the entry and exit points. These are crucial in providing a safe learning environment for all. Some gates are also opened and closed at certain times, and during school hours. If you wish to visit the school at any other time besides drop-off and pick-up, you will need to come through the school office and sign-in and out. Please observe and follow the signage.
Our staff have meetings and prepare for the school day, before and after school. If they are out on duty at these times this valuable preparation time will be compromised. Our duty of care is engaged as soon as students are on site, even if parents/carers are also on site. We therefore ask that the following is observed:
- Students in Years 1-6 to commence arriving at 8:15am. Students in Years 1-4 will need to go to the lower undercover area until 8:30am (preferably arrive at 8:30am) when they are dismissed to go to their classroom. Our Year 5 and 6 students will congregate around the flagpole area.
- Please vacate the school grounds as soon as possible after the 2:55pm home time. We understand that after school is a great time for a quick get together with siblings and friends and ask that you vacate no later than 3:15pm. School rules with regards to behaviour are to be followed, no exceptions.
- OSHClub and other outside groups have a lease agreement that allows them to use our facilities before and after school. Additional students/children on the school grounds, compromises the lease agreements and their duty of care. The funds we receive from these organisations flows directly to the education of our students.
- Early Childhood – Please follow the same procedures or as further directed by our staff.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Retiring staff
It is with great sadness I inform you that our school Library Officer, Denise Connolly, after 21 years of service at our school will be retiring. Denise was responsible for maintaining the library/resources, accessioning, displays and bookfair, to name a few. I would like to thank Denise for her dedicated commitment to our school and the students throughout these years. Thank you.

- As part of the Small Scale Election Commitment Program, our school will be receiving $40,000 towards our oval upgrades. This is great news and will enable us to rejuvenate the main school oval as well as the top oval (already in progress).

Free Parent Cyber Safety Session
Rebekah Nijsen is a former WA Police Officer and an experienced cyber safety educator who has worked on the frontline protecting kids for over 10 years. Being a mother, she can relate to the anxieties parents face raising kids in the Internet age.
Rebekah has personally seen the damage caused by online harm to a child's physical, emotional and mental identity. She believes that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for all.
Parents and carers of students in Kindy to Year 6 are encouraged to attend a free presentation on Wednesday 23 July (Week 1, Term 3) from 9:00am to 10:00am in the Conference Room where there will be an opportunity to listen to Rebekah and ask questions.

Professor Maths Incursion

On Tuesday and Wednesday of Week 7, PP to Year 6 students participated in the Professor Maths Incursion.
Professor Maths provided a fun, hands-on maths experience which supported the learning done in classrooms.
Students were excited to solve challenges which earnt them their special vests, glasses, and wigs.
We’re glad the students found the experience valuable, and I would like to thank Miss Maltese for coordinating the incursion.

ECE – Early Childhood Education
It’s been a busy and exciting term in Early Childhood Education, and we couldn't be prouder of our wonderful children! Their hard work and enthusiasm, both in and out of the classroom, has been truly impressive. With just one week to go until the holidays, they’ve certainly earned a well-deserved break!
Kindy children have been diving into the delightful story Ella Kazoo Will Not Brush Her Hair. They had so much fun retelling the tale and even recreated Ella’s wild hair using straw painting - what a creative bunch!
After an outstanding response to the Kindergarten parent roster in Term 2, the staff are looking forward to continuing to welcome you into your child's classroom in Term 3. In Week 10 of this term, a hard copy parent roster will be placed outside your child's classroom for you to sign up on a date that suits you. Please be aware, first preference will be given to those families who are yet to have had the opportunity to volunteer.
Over in Pre-Primary, some very clever engineers have been hard at work designing a trap in the playground to (hopefully!) catch the elusive Gingerbread Man. So, if you spot a curious contraption while passing by, don’t worry - it’s all part of the adventure!
We were very fortunate to receive a generous toy donation from Jo Wooding. Her kindness has enriched our indoor and outdoor play spaces, and we are incredibly grateful. If any families have plastic toy cubbies that they no longer need, we’d love to give them a new home in our ECE playground. Please speak to one of our staff if you’re able to donate.
Finally, a friendly reminder: please ensure your child has a full change of weather-appropriate clothing (including socks and underwear) in their school bag. This helps us keep everyone comfortable and happy in the event of any unexpected spills or splashes!
Thanks for your continued support and for helping us make Term 2 such a special one.

Next Focus Virtue
The next focus virtue is – Resilience.
We grow together as a community with courage and perseverance.
What might resilience look like at home?
- Getting comfortable with winning and losing by playing board games or video games together.
- Help your child set reasonable goals and help them see it through, tackling obstacles and set-backs together.
- Encouraging positive self-talk on tricky homework tasks eg “This may take some time/ Mistakes help me learn” rather than “This is too hard”.
- Talk through ideas for how to manage frustration - eg walking the dog, a relaxing bath, playing music.

Lunchtime Lego Club
Lunchtimes have been a bit wild and windy for our disco, so our cosy lego club has been in full swing! It’s always a treat to see how quickly the students can construct these tiny worlds with shops, vehicles and gardens, completely from scratch in about 15 minutes! It is always a little heartbreaking when we have to deconstruct and pack it all away - definitely requiring a bit of resilience!

Professor Maths Incursion
On Tuesday 10 June and Wednesday 11 June, all students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 took part in an exciting problem-solving incursion facilitated by Professor Maths. Throughout the sessions, students engaged in a variety of hands-on mathematical challenges that encouraged critical thinking and teamwork.
After completing three activities, students had the opportunity to transform into 'professors' by dressing up in glasses, a wig, and a vest—bringing fun and creativity into the learning experience.
The incursion was a fantastic success, with students across all year levels highly engaged and thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to develop their problem-solving skills in such an interactive way.

Dianella Heights Primary School Cross Country Success
On Tuesday 24 June, the sun shone brightly over Dianella Heights Primary School, creating the perfect backdrop for the much-anticipated faction cross country event. With excitement in the air and a spirit of camaraderie among students, the day turned out to be a memorable celebration of athleticism and teamwork.
The competition was fierce, but ultimately, the Emus soared to victory, clinching the top spot in the faction standings. Following closely behind were the Quokkas, who put up a commendable fight for second place. The Dingoes secured third, while the Platypus faction rounded out the rankings in fourth place. Each faction displayed remarkable determination and enthusiasm, making the event a true showcase of school spirit.
Throughout the race, students exemplified perseverance, resilience, and outstanding sportsmanship. Their dedication not only highlighted their individual strengths but also fostered a sense of community and support among peers. It was heartwarming to witness students cheering for one another, regardless of their faction affiliation.
We are proud to announce that the top five placegetters from this event will represent Dianella Heights Primary School at the upcoming interschool carnival on Tuesday 29 July. This is an incredible opportunity for our talented athletes to compete against other schools and showcase their skills on a larger stage.
Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and determination! Let’s keep the momentum going as we support our representatives at the interschool carnival. Go DHPS!

Winter Carnival
On Thursday 26 June, Dianella Heights Primary School students proudly represented our school at the much-anticipated Winter Carnival - a day filled with sport, spirit, and sunshine!
Our students competed in Netball, Soccer, and AFL Football, taking on teams from neighbouring schools in a showcase of friendly competition. Across all sports, our students demonstrated outstanding teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship.
Adding to the excitement, our teams looked incredible in their new sports tops, generously donated by the P&C. The fresh new look brought a real sense of pride and unity, and we received many compliments from other schools on how sharp our students looked!
The netball teams showed incredible coordination and persistence on the court, with players supporting one another and never giving up. On the soccer fields, our teams played with passion and skill, passing with precision and defending with strength. Meanwhile, the AFL players tackled every challenge with energy and resilience, displaying true school spirit from the first bounce to the final siren.
A big thank you to our dedicated staff, coaches, and parent volunteers for making the day run smoothly. And of course, congratulations to all our competitors for representing Dianella Heights with pride. You should all be very proud of your efforts!
Well done, Dianella Heights!
