New Business Plan - Update
We have concluded our first stage of community consultation via the DISA survey, and the results analysed by our partner, the University of Southern Queensland and our Administration. The next stage is that staff will use the recommendations to formulate our strategies that will guide us for the next 4 years. Once the draft is complete, I will present to our P&C and the School Board for ratification. Thank you to all who have taken the time to be part of the process.

Embedded community engagement processes
Communities of support for the school’s vision and outcomes
High expectations, by the school’s communities, for student & school outcomes
PEAC Testing
The Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) program is a part-time withdrawal program for upper primary school Year 5 and 6 students in public schools. Identified students are selected to participate in differentiated programs offered in a range of delivery modes. Our Year 4 students were tested on Monday. Parents/carers of those successful students will be informed later in the year for their participation to commence in 2026.

Students’ individual wellbeing
Participation in external networks
NAIDOC Week
Although NAIDOC week was gazetted for 6-13 July, our HASS Committee has been working hard to produce a stimulating and engaging program for our students. This week we have been participating in activities focusing on the Aboriginal culture through the mandated Culturally Responsive Framework. I would like to thank our committee for their work and planning here.

Rotary Public Speaking

Fourteen students were part of the selection process who worked hard to be the 2 who represented our school in the finals. Last Monday, Marwa and Will attended the finals at the Bedford Bowling Club. They presented their speeches with confidence and clarity. We did not win this time, but the journey was awesome, and the students involved gained confidence in public speaking and appreciated the opportunity. We are proud of you all! Thank you to Mrs Clohessy for her organisation and to Mrs Pinkard and Mrs Syme for their attendance.

Spell-a-thon
Recently our students/community participated in our annual Spell-a-thon. This was a huge success, presenting our students with a competitive opportunity and substantially raising funds for our literacy program. This year we raised over $11 000! Thank you for your support here and congratulations to Mrs Pinkard for her impeccable coordination and all who donated.

Student Recognition
I was extremely pleased to hear that one of our Year 4 students won the recent WA Karate competition. Lucus Y competed in two events: Kumite and Kata. Congratulations Lucus!

Works
- We have been in consultation with the company assigned to the governments’ air-conditioning program. The first stage is to ascertain the electrical/power capabilities.
- Room 2 smell. We have detected a pungent odour coming from the ceiling in Room 2 Year 1 and we are working with the department to rectify the issue. The class has been relocated to the Conference room temporarily.
- We were informed by Western Power of an imminent outage for last Wednesday. We worked with the Department to minimise disruption to the school day, and a temporary generator was commissioned. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Australian Mathematics Competition
On Wednesday, 10 selected Year 5 and 6 students travelled to Morley Senior High School to compete in the Australian Maths Competition.
Congratulations to Year 5 students Adithya S, Sarah X, Shane T, Chloe L, Kenshin A, and Year 6 students William M, Ethan Z, Aarav B, Liam H, Kazi M.
We can’t wait to see your results. Thank you to Morley Senior High School for providing our students with this opportunity.

Lighthouse Cyber Education
Recently, we hosted Rebekah from Lighthouse Cyber Education who spoke to our Year 5 and 6 students.
Rebekah provided valuable guidance, practical tips, and clear actions to help students stay safe online.
We encourage parents of our Year 5 and 6 students to have a conversation with their children tonight about what they learned. This is a great opportunity to reinforce these important messages and support safe online habits at home.
Before the student session, Rebekah also spoke to a small group of parents. We thank those parents for their attendance. Parent notes from this session are attached in article 'Lighthouse Cyber Education - Workshop Summary'.
Th eSafety Commissioner’s website is also a great starting point for parents - https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents

Applications for Kindy and Pre-Primary 2026

Voluntary contributions
Voluntary contributions bolster our school’s funding and allow the purchase of materials and consumables that enhance teaching and learning at Dianella Heights. We are grateful to the families who have already made this payment, but it is never too late to make a contribution. Payments are welcomed by direct bank transfer or by Eftpos in the school office.

EALD – English as Additional Language/Dialect
To conclude Term 2, our EALD students suggested doing a fun cooking activity. After exploring simple ideas online together, they decided to design and make their own edible Minions!
The students followed oral instructions step-by-step to bring their creations to life, then wrote detailed procedures so they could recreate the treats at home. The highlight? Eating their delicious Minions at the end - fun, creative, and tasty!

Celebrating Languages at Dianella Library
During the winter school holidays, I visited Dianella Library, conveniently located opposite Dianella Plaza. Tucked away in the back corner of the library, I discovered a wonderful collection of books in various languages for adults and children. These include picture books organised by language, such as French, Korean, Japanese, and more.
Library membership is free, and borrowing these books is a great way to support your child's home language development. For our bilingual families with younger children, I also spotted a fantastic program: Chinese Storytime, held on Wednesday mornings. It’s a great opportunity to connect with other Chinese-speaking families in the local area while nurturing your child’s connection to their cultural and linguistic background.
Encouraging literacy in your home language, alongside Standard Australian English, helps children understand how language works and supports them in becoming confident readers, listeners, and communicators.

ECE News – Welcome Back to Term 3
Welcome back to Term 3 - it's hard to believe how quickly the year is flying by!
We wrapped up Term 2 on a high note with a very special visit from Farmer Damien and his farm animals. The children were captivated as Farmer Damien explained where many of our everyday foods come from. They had the unique opportunity to interact with a variety of animals, learning how each one helps on the farm. A definite highlight for many was catching and holding a chicken, and tossing a ball to Farmer Damien’s friendly farm dog, Curly Sue. It was a hands-on learning experience the children are still talking about!
The magic continued into Term 3 with our much-anticipated Fairy Tale Day. The children looked fantastic arriving in their colourful costumes, ready to dive into a world of imagination and creativity. Activities included making fairy bread and a special visit from Princess Sapphire, who took the children on a magical ocean adventure through storytelling, song, and dance. Her performance had everyone completely enthralled and inspired a sense of wonder that carried on through the week.
It’s been a joyful and busy start to the term, and we can’t wait to see more of what Term 3 has in store!

Warm regards,
The ECE Team

Aussie of the Month
Tashi P was recognised as our Aussie of the Month at the last assembly of Term 2. Congratulations Tashi, you are such a superstar!

Focus Virtue
Our last focus virtue was Resilience.
These are the incredible students who were recognised for practising resilience.

Next Focus Virtue
The next focus virtue is Kindness.
You are practising kindness when you:
- Do thoughtful things to bring others happiness
- Notice, offer and assist those in need
- Accept and embrace differences in others
- Show care and nurturing towards the environment
- Consider and make time for your own needs
What might kindness look like at home?
- Showing appreciation when someone cooks dinner
- Leaving a note for someone that would make them smile
- Checking in on a neighbour who might be elderly/live alone
- Giving lots of love and attention to your pet!
- Go through homework together and support where needed
Lunchtime Disco and Lego Club
Check out these gorgeous groovers and cool creations! So much of our days are full of tight schedules and explicit tasks - it’s so beneficial to engage in something that is simply about letting go, trying things out and having fun!

Year 6 Public Speaking
In Term 2, our Year 6 students had the exciting opportunity to join the Public Speaking Club.
Run in partnership with the Morley Rotary Club, the program took place over 8 weeks during Wednesday lunchtimes. Throughout the term, students explored the art of public speaking - learning how to structure compelling speeches, master key public speaking techniques, and deliver their messages with confidence.
After weeks of hard work, two students - William and Marwa - were selected to represent DHPS at the Morley Rotary’s 4Way Public Speaking Contest, held on Monday 4 August. They have competed against students from neighbouring primary schools.
I am incredibly proud of all participating students for their dedication, courage, and enthusiasm throughout the program.

Interschool Cross Country Newsletter Report
What a spectacular day it was for this year’s Interschool Cross Country Carnival! With sensational weather setting the perfect backdrop, our Dianella Heights team showed up full of determination, spirit, and pride.
We are proud to announce that Dianella Heights placed 6th overall - a fantastic result showcasing our students' teamwork, sportsmanship, and tremendous effort from start to finish.
The day was filled with outstanding performances and several top 10 finishes, with our runners giving their absolute best on the course. A special round of applause goes to the following students for their exceptional individual achievements:
🏅Roberto C – 1st place in the Year 6 Boys 2km race
🥈Zac M – 2nd place in the 2km race
🏅Grace M – 5th place in the 1.5km race
🏅Lucus Y – 9th place in the 1.5km race
These sensational results are a reflection of the hard work and dedication each of our students put into their training and racing. Whether placing in the top 10 or pushing themselves across the finish line, every student represented Dianella Heights with pride and perseverance.
Thank you to all the staff, families and supporters who cheered on our runners - it was truly a day to remember!
Well done, Dianella Heights!

School Board
Hi DHPS community,
It’s a great privilege to have taken the Board Chair position, and I look forward to working with the school and the community in this role.
DHPS has a great cohort of students, and the Board is extremely lucky to receive a presentation from Year 6 student councillors at our Board meetings. The presentations provide a fantastic update from the students’ perspectives about what has been happening at the school. It’s also a great way for the students to practice their public speaking and presentation skills.
It’s hard to believe that we’re already in Term 3! I’m looking forward to all the exciting events at the school this term, including the Spelling Bee, Faction Carnival and Interschool Carnival.
Please feel free to reach out to me at verity.broun@gmail.com if there is anything you would like to discuss.
